I'm looking to buy a PC to plug into my 32'' HD TV. Will I need any specific graphics card to do so?

  • Be sure that the PC you are buying has a HDMI port or VGA output or something like that.

  • Chances are that the graphics card will not be an issue. The main thing that you need to be concerned about is having the right connections between the PC and the TV. If you have an HDMI and/or a DVI connection available between the two, you're good to go. Some TVs, such as my LG, also have the older RGB in option. If your TV has that, there's a third choice (though not quite as convenient).

  • Try this product...
ASUS EN8600GT SILENT/HTDP/256M GeForce 8600 GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

  • A DVI output and related cables

  • This depends on what types of connections your TV has.

Most commonly these days--TVs have an HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) connection. This is a digital connection and you will need a digital output from your computer (i.e. HDMI or DVI). If your TV has HDMI and your PC has DVI, you can buy a converter at any local or online electronics store.

If your TV does not have HDMI, you'll need to look for a "PC input" or VGA connection. This will allow you to take a standard VGA cable between the TV and the computer.

Keep in mind that these cables will only provide PICTURE when connected between the devices.

If you did want a specific type of video card, and your TV has an HDMI connection, you may look into a card that has HDMI directly on-board. This will provide audio and video to the TV.
