Loudeye & Firepad Team Up for Wireless Video Content

Loudeye Technologies will soon be converting video content into Firepad format so that they may be viewed on Palm handheld devices.

Seattle.internet.com has learned that the Seattle-based provider of digital media solutions is teaming up with the Mountain View-based provider of software that enables rich content on wireless handheld devices.

Firepad's technology is capable of displaying full-screen color video data on a Palm device at up to 25 frames pers second.

Firepad President and COO Kenneth Marshall believes that the wireless industry in on the verge of having large amounts of video content streamed across multiple formats and devices.

Using Firepad's FireProducer enterprise application, Loudeye will be able to work with content owners to encode movie trailers, newscasts, and other content to Firepad's optimized mobile format for viewing on Palm Computing Platform handheld devices.

The relationship with Firepad apparently is a part of Loudeye's strategy to be the first digital media solutions provider to offer encoding services and support for video and animation formats across the wireless market.

According to Loudeye Founder & CEO Martin Tobias, delivering streaming video and animation to handheld devices is an important part of the company's wireless initiative.

"Firepad demonstrated a sharp focus on developing technology which provides a means for companies to do this, and Loudeye adds the world-class digital media services required to complete the solution for customers asking for this functionality," says Tobias.
